This lesson is unique in that it addresses two different types of power, Reward and Punish. We have included both because a reward for some may be a punishment for another, what may be a punishment for some may be a reward for others. At the same time, leaders often find that the motivation to reward or punish is derived from the same initial action and intention. In this lesson, we begin with Reward Power, working through the entire Discover, Declare and Leverage process. Then we address Punishment Power.

First, we Discover and identify the reward and punishment power you already have available to you in your position.

Second, we help you Declare those reward and punishment powers through the PROFIT and EXPENSE acronym. This is delicate business that can literally lead to increased profits or additional ill-advised expenses. We must proceed with caution but when we do, the leverage to lift otherwise insurmountable loads in incredible. It definitely takes a 3D approach.

Third, we help you Leverage your power most efficiently with a self-assessment. This series of questions is designed to help you fine tune what is best for you and your situation to maximize your reward and punishment power. Upon completion of this lesson, we expect you will have a good mental understanding of these powers. Don’t be surprised, however, if along the way you radically change your approach. We also expect you will have a better understanding of what really works and how you can use this power to create a collaborative spirit that will lift obstacles and exceed goals.
